The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the junior level (Assistant Professor). We seek applicants in support of the department's vision of creating solutions for cities, communities, and nature to thrive, with a particular focus on the frontier of natural hazard and risk engineering (https://cee.stanford.edu/research-impact). While we give highest priority to the originality, quality, and potential impact of the candidate's work, we are especially interested in applicants whose research addresses hazard characterization, risk assessment, and/or mitigation strategies for climate-influenced risks, such as flooding, drought, wildfires, landslides, storms, and urban heat, among others. Please visit our website for more information about the CEE Department at http://cee.stanford.edu/.
Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a Ph.D. in the engineering field in which they apply their work, or a closely related one. Evidence of the ability to pursue a program of research, a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching, and the ability to initiate and conduct research across disciplines are required. A successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels and to build and lead a team of graduate students in PhD research. We especially value faculty who will help foster a collaborative academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds and outlooks.
Applications should include a resume, brief statements of research and teaching interests (3-5 pages total for both combined), and the names and e-mail addresses of 3-5 references. We will request letters of recommendation after candidates have been short-listed. Candidate should apply online at the link.
The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, School of Engineering, Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, and Stanford University value faculty who will help foster an open and respectful academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief discussion about how their work will further these values.
Applications will be accepted until November 15, 2025. Interviews will begin in the winter term, so applicants are encouraged to apply early. Please forward questions to ceefacultysearch@stanford.edu.
