About the role

The University of Sussex Business School/SPRU is seeking to recruit an Education and Scholarship (E&S) Assistant Professor in Energy Policy Studies/Assistant Professor in Energy and Climate Policy. The Assistant Professor will work closely with colleagues in this area to deliver and develop a range of modules in both the MSc Energy and Climate Policy Online Distance Learning (ODL) and the MSc Energy and Climate Policy (on campus).

These include ODL modules such as Energy Justice, Energy and Economic Growth, Introduction to Energy Policy, Energy & Sustainability, and Governing Energy Transitions. The Lecturer will also contribute to curriculum design, student supervision, and broader teaching-related activities, while supporting the School’s commitment to high-quality, research-informed education in this and related fields.

About you

A strong grasp of contemporary issues, challenges, and debates within the field of energy policy is essential, alongside the ability to draw on, and integrate, ideas from a variety of perspectives, including (but not limited to) energy transitions, energy justice, and energy sustainability.

Applicants for this Education and Scholarship Pathway Lectureship must be able to demonstrate a track record of excellence in teaching, supported by evidence of effective student engagement and learning outcomes. The role requires a genuine interest in innovative and effective teaching methods and pedagogy, as well as the flexibility to adapt content and delivery for diverse audiences. The postholder will be expected to teach and assess postgraduate students, contribute to the development of engaging learning materials, stimulate classroom discussion, and foster critical thinking skills. An enthusiasm for working collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries and for supporting student success in both face-to-face and online environments will be highly valued.
