Assistant Professor in History/Social Studies Education
Job Description
The Stanford Graduate School of Education is seeking nominations and applications for a faculty member who specializes in history/social studies education. The successful candidate will have a promising record of accomplishment in the field, including a doctoral degree with a scholarly focus in the area of history/social studies education and/or the preparation of prospective teachers for teaching K-12 history/social studies. The rank will be tenure track Assistant Professor.
The person hired for this position will teach graduate level courses for prospective researchers and K-12 teachers, with the potential to teach other master's students and undergraduates as well. They will also advise students and guide doctoral research in history/social studies education and related fields. Prior teaching experience in K-12 classrooms preferred.
We welcome applications from scholars deploying a wide range of methods and data, including ethnographic, qualitative, comparative-historical, and quantitative/computational approaches.
Applicants are required to provide:
- a brief cover letter (no more than 2 pages)
- a research and teaching statement (no more than 3 pages)
- curriculum vitae
- three scholarly publications and/or well-developed papers
- the names of three references, who will be contacted for a letter upon submission of the application
Ph.D./Ed.D. or enrollment in a Ph.D./Ed.D. program with anticipated degree conferral by the time of appointment as Assistant Professor is required.

The expected base pay range for this position is: Assistant Prof: $135k - $150k
Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
