The Division of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, to join our eight (8) member Surgeon group. Candidates should be board-certified or -eligible in General Surgery, with additional fellowship training in Trauma and/or Surgical Critical Care. We are looking for Trauma/Acute Care Surgeons who would be a good fit for our team, who wish to work hard in a supportive environment, and develop an academic career. We cover Trauma, the Trauma and Surgical Intensive care units (the latter shared with Anesthesia), Emergency General Surgery, as well as Elective General Surgery cases at Augusta State Medical Prison. We are particularly interested in candidates interested in building an elective general surgical practice, which can be facilitated by an ambulatory surgery center. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Clinical - 75%
Develop clinical practice in the field of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
Increase clinic visits and increase surgical volumes related to Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
Participate in the call schedule with the Divisions of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
Teaching - 25%
Teach and educate general surgery residents about Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
Required Qualifications
MD, DO or equivalent degree; Board-eligible in general surgery and Trauma and Acute Care Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, with additional fellowship training in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. 5 years of general surgery residency and an additional year of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery fellowship.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
