Job Description Summary:
The Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center will also serve as the Assistant Director of the Evidence-Based Practice, Outcomes & Impact Center (EPIC). This position provides leadership in the design, analysis, and reporting of health services evaluation projects, including defining project scope, identifying resources, establishing timelines, and producing summary reports.
The Assistant Professor expands EPIC's research portfolio by partnering with existing collaborators and pursuing new research and contract opportunities, including those offered by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The role also serves as a co-investigator and project manager for studies focused on practice patterns, healthcare utilization, cost-effectiveness, and variations in clinical practice across the health system. In addition, the Assistant Professor coordinates multidisciplinary teams, contributes health services research expertise to institutional and interinstitutional projects, and participates in the education and training of learners within the Department of Internal Medicine.
Job Description:
- Conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses of the published literature (evidence reports or technology assessment reports) under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Responsibilities include drafting protocols, screening and appraising studies, extracting and analyzing data, and preparing results reports or manuscripts.
- Lead a team of researchers conducting systematic reviews by monitoring progress, providing feedback, and developing systems to triage, prioritize, and track project activities.
- Review and respond to Request for Applications and write grant proposals.
- Produce relevant, timely, and actionable evidence synthesis products for different clinical, public health and health services topics with experience presenting in formats tailored to different audiences.
- Train, educate and mentor graduate/doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows through research engagement and formal and informal teaching activities.

Required Qualifications
Education: MD or PhD in Clinical Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Economics, Health Research Methodology, or a related discipline, or equivalent degree.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Work Experience:
- Experience with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of quantitative data.
- Experience with statistical software such as SAS, STATA, MPlus, HLM6 or SPSS.
- Research experience in evidence synthesis and methodology.
- Experience managing several ongoing projects and coordinate research efforts.
- A record of successful program of research and extramural grant funding as demonstrated by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:
- Expertise in systematic review methodology and guideline development as demonstrated by application materials.
- Five (5) years of experience in conducting systematic reviews and evidence synthesis work.
- Experience preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and/or presentations for local, national or international conferences.
