Physical Location of Position (City): Vermillion

Position Description: The Department of Mathematical Sciences of the University of South Dakota invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at Assistant Professor level starting August 14, 2026, with a PhD in Applied Mathematics or Statistics from an accredited institution. The salary is commensurate with qualification and experience and includes a full benefits package.

Required qualifications: PhD in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, with completion by the appointment date.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will join a department of 17 faculty within the College of Arts and Science and will be expected to teach a broad range of mathematics courses from introductory Calculus to graduate-level offerings, maintain an active research agenda and contribute to service at the departmental, college, university and professional level.

This search is part of a coordinated hiring effort in interdisciplinary data sciences within the College of Arts & Sciences. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to participate actively in curricular and research initiatives related to data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and related topics. Additionally, this position will provide support for the PhD program in Data Science and Engineering, which is shared by the Departments of Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences.
