Essential Job Duties: Will teach VMP 962 - Ruminant Medicine; VMP 936 Health Maintenance and Animal Production II; VMP 908 - Ruminant Surgery; VET 913 - Exams and Interventions 1; VMC 995 - Clinical Conference; VMP 996 - Ruminant Medicine and Surgery; VMB 952 - Specialized Problem Solving in Veterinary Medicine. This position will primarily support the Farm Animal Medicine and Surgery Service, which sees approximately 600 cases/year, which includes a mix of small ruminants, camelids, pigs and cattle involving primary and referral level care for medicine, surgery and theriogenology in both production and pet livestock. The service has a significant role in training all veterinary students in basic care of farm animals through hands-on labs at the on-campus Teaching Animal Unit farm. The candidate will assume primary case management responsibilities and will oversee the residents, interns, students, and technicians that contribute to the team. The candidate will provide high quality effective and efficient patient care for a variety of cases. Clinical responsibilities will entail client and referral veterinarian communication, development of a diagnostic and treatment plan, interpretation of diagnostic findings, implementation of a treatment plan, surgery, post-operative care, development of a home care plan, and adherence to hospital fiscal policies. Consultation will be provided to other services within the CVM and to referring veterinarians. They will be expected to support and to perform clinical research to advance clinically relevant knowledge, and to establish an independent research program.

Minimum Experience/Education: Requires a PhD in Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Sciences. Must have completed a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine with Livestock Emphasis and be certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Must have demonstrated experience with: proficiency in diagnosing and treating complex internal medical conditions in farm animal species including sheep, goats, pigs and cattle utilizing advanced techniques and technologies to enhance animal health and welfare; leading educational initiatives to train veterinary students in basic and advanced techniques in large animal medicine through lecturing and providing practical training in clinical settings; conducting research in the epidemiology and immunology of large animal diseases, focused on the pre-weaning period, contributing to the understanding of disease dynamics, vaccine effectiveness, colostrum management and the sustainability of the cattle industry; designing and implementing research studies, analyzing data, and publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals that address clinically relevant research questions by conducting clinically applied research studies; managing emergency situations and providing critical care for large animals, including prompt assessment, stabilization, and treatment of life-threatening conditions; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure scenarios, ensuring optimal outcomes for animal health and welfare; and developing and delivering educational programs for livestock producers that focus on best management practices, disease prevention, and health management strategies, including creating tailored workshops and seminars that enhance producer knowledge and improve animal husbandry practices.
