The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an expected start date of August 10th, 2026.
Required qualifications: The applicant will possess a Ph.D. in the biological sciences or related fields with an excellent record of innovative research and academic scholarship. The candidate is expected to have a record of postdoctoral training (or the equivalent) and peer-reviewed publications, the potential to secure extramural funding, and a commitment to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and mentor students. Desired qualifications include expertise that synergizes with existing strengths of the department including Immunology, Microbiology and Virology; Biomolecular Function; Proteostasis; Genome Integrity and Epigenome Regulation; Cancer Research; Environmental Risks and Adaptation; and the potential to synergize with Chemistry/Nanoscience, the Center for Computational Intelligence to Predict Health & Environmental Risks (CIPHER), or the School of Data Science.
The Department of Biological Sciences is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary department with state-of-the-art facilities, and multiple research labs are funded through R01-level NIH grants as well as large NSF grants. The departmental research activities interconnect with other academic units of the recently formed Klein College of Science. Faculty-driven research relies on dedicated facilities and shared state-of-the-art equipment platforms. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program that provides a supportive environment for students with varying learning styles and academic backgrounds.
The department supports BA, BS, graduate certificate, MS, and PhD programs with a diverse body of faculty and students and prides itself on student hands-on training. Currently, the department is home to over a thousand undergraduate biology majors and 80 graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department of Biological Sciences and participation in the development/implementation of undergraduate and graduate curricula employing best practices in classroom pedagogy, and a strong commitment to fostering the success of students with varying learning styles and academic backgrounds.
