A thriving small city and regional center for education, health, and the arts, Greenville is a great place to live, work, play, and visit. It has a cost of living more than 10 percent below the national average and boasts a vibrant downtown district with restaurants, breweries, and shopping. Greenville hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year and offers numerous recreational opportunities, including access to the Tar River, over nine miles of greenways, nearly 30 parks and recreational facilities, and a growing arts scene.
The Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences (https://thcas.ecu.edu/) is home to 15 academic departments including the Department of Psychology. Harriot Colleges vision is to be an engine of access, knowledge, and opportunity for all learners through transformative education, innovative research and creative activities, and meaningful community engagement. The College seeks to create an environment that fosters the recruitment and retention of our student body, faculty, staff, and administration by building a culture of care, belonging, and opportunity.
The Department of Psychology (http://psychology.ecu.edu) has 35 full-time faculty members, many of whom routinely collaborate with colleagues throughout the schools and colleges of ECU and have established strong connections with ECUs School of Dental Medicine, College of Education, College of Business, and various departments in Brody School of Medicine, including Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Cardiology. Graduate students are trained via a scientist-practitioner model to augment their success in the field, and the 3-month post-graduation employment rate of I/O MA students is nearly 100%.
The Department also has a doctoral program in Health Psychology with three separate concentrations - Occupational Health Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, and Pediatric School Psychology. Both the Clinical Health Psychology and Pediatric School Psychology concentrations are accredited by the American Psychological Association.
