Position Highlights

The Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities is seeking a Research Scholar to advance and lead a program of research, scholarship, development, and innovation. The candidate will be responsible for designing, organizing, executing, and managing integrated research programs that are aligned with the mission of the Sonoran Center and contribute new knowledge to the field of disability. This position is expected to engage community stakeholders in defining the problem, designing investigations that address issues, and translating knowledge into policy and practice recommendations and resources.

This position is eligible for consideration of a career track, non-tenure eligible faculty title with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Arizona at the appropriate rank of Assistant Professor. Responsibilities to the Department include mentoring resident and clinical faculty research projects, providing guest lectures, participating on departmental and College committees, and collaborating with other faculty on research and development.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, and implement rigorous research leading to the development, field-testing, and dissemination of interventions, new models, outcomes and products to benefit people with disabilities.
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals and secure external funding in support of research and Sonoran Center activities.
  • Develop new initiatives, pilot activities, and innovative promising practices in response to current and emerging issues.
  • Engage community stakeholders and develop/expand relationships with university, state, and national partners.
  • Provide teaching opportunities for university students and Sonoran Center trainees including new courses, research mentoring, and guest lectures.
  • Provide oversight and management of new and existing state and federal grants, contracts, and projects.
  • Supervise staff and conduct training and mentoring for staff and faculty on research and grant development,
  • Publish research results in appropriate scholarly journals and disseminate findings through other online and written products and resources.
  • Conduct activities that contribute to the goals and workplan of the Sonoran Center; represent the organization on state and national workgroups, committees, and leadership roles; and participate on the organization's leadership team contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Lead Sonoran Center policy efforts, participating on state and national policy committees, engaging stakeholders in disability-related policy, informing staff of relevant policy developments, and mentor/teach Policy Fellow trainees.
  • Teach Psych405 to include trainee mentoring and practicum experiences.
  • Contribute to the development of the five-year CORE grant.
  • Represent UCEDD on the AZDDPC sexual abuse workgroup.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Psychology or related with at least 5 years of experience in successful leadership of research programs.
  • A track record of obtaining NIH (or comparable) peer-reviewed funding.
  • Must meet University of Arizona criteria for appointment to a non tenure track faculty position.
