"Assistant Professor of Art History"

The Department of Art History and Museum Studies at Florida Southern College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Art History and Museum Studies beginning August 2026.

Applications desiring preferential consideration should apply by November 7, 2025. A complete application consists of a (1) cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) statement of teaching philosophy that demonstrates a commitment to inclusive and engaged pedagogy, (4) an article or chapter-length sample of scholarly writing, (5) names and contact information of three references.

While we welcome applicants from all areas of specialization with broad expertise, preference may be given to candidates with teaching experience in one or more of the following fields:

• Ancient, Medieval, Early Modern, or 18th–19th Century Art History
• Global/Non-Western Art History
• Museum and/or Curatorial Studies

A strong commitment to dynamic and innovative undergraduate teaching is expected. Scholars who engage with object-based teaching and community engagement are encouraged to apply, as well as those who might wish to pursue interdisciplinary connections with campus programs and minors (including, but not limited to: Women’s and Gender Studies, Latinx Studies, and Race, Culture, and Ethnicity Studies).

The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing a thriving Art History and Museum Studies program, with exciting opportunities for collaboration with the newly expanded AGB Museum of Art at Florida Southern College.

The teaching load is 3/3 and will include a combination of introductory and advanced undergraduate courses that serve majors, minors, and visual and fine arts students. Additional responsibilities include maintaining an active program of scholarly research, contributing to college and departmental service, and supporting student advising and ongoing program development.

A PhD in Art History or Museum Studies is required; ABDs who are nearing completion will be considered.
