The Ohio University Biological Sciences Department | Ohio University invites applications for a tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Conservation Biology. The expected start date is August 2026. We aim to identify individuals who will contribute to our department’s mission through high impact research, exceptional teaching, and meaningful service.

Assistant Professor of Conservation Biologywill study organismal and ecosystem responses to habitat loss, urbanization, pollution, and/or climate change. Preference will be given to candidates whose research applies an integrative approach (experimental, comparative, or computational) to evaluate how animals adapt to changing environments. This position will focus on identifying practical conservation actions across priority landscapes, informing species recovery efforts, and engaging with partners to protect and restore ecological integrity. Expertise in landscape ecology, wildlife biology, aquatic biology or geographic information systems and remote sensing is welcome.

The successful applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant, world-class research program that will attract external funding, recruit graduate students (MS and PhD), and contribute to collaborative and interdisciplinary research within the department and across the university. The successful candidate is also expected to provide research experiences for undergraduate students and teach up to three (undergraduate/graduate) courses per year in their area of expertise. The individual will also contribute professional service to the department and university.

Ohio University and the Department of Biological Sciences:

The research strengths of our department span from molecules to ecosystems. The research and graduate programs of the Department of Biological Sciences are integrated with the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (HCOM) providing ample opportunities for interactions and collaborations. Faculty research is also supported by numerous university initiatives and there are opportunities to collaborate with several other departments, research institutes, and centers at Ohio University including the Ohio Center for Ecological and Evolutionary Studies (OCEES), Department of Environmental & Plant Biology, Department of Geography, and the Environmental Studies program in the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service. The department also has access to the Ohio University Land Laboratory, which supports teaching and research.

Ohio University is a Carnegie Foundation R1 residential campus with an enrollment of over 25,000 students. Founded in 1804, Ohio University Athens campus consists of 11 colleges and multiple interdisciplinary programs. The Department of Biological Sciences consists of a vibrant intellectual community with curriculum designed to prepare students for specific careers, graduate school, and professional schools.

The beautiful and historical Ohio University campus sits at the heart of the city of Athens, a family-friendly and culturally diverse city nestled in the Appalachian foothills. Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field by the start date of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should provide evidence of research excellence demonstrated by a record of publications in relevant journals and extramural support, and a research statement that outlines an innovative, forward-looking research program.

Postdoctoral and teaching experience is preferred.
