Assistant Professor of Biology - Anatomy and Physiology

The Austin College Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology to begin August 2026. We seek a broadly trained biologist who will contribute to our physiological and organismal biology curriculum. Biologists who leverage various approaches to physiology in their research and teaching at the interface of disciplines across the broad field of biology are encouraged to apply.

Teaching responsibilities include the first semester of our introductory core sequence covering ecology and evolution, the second semester of a revised two-semester sequence of anatomy & physiology, an upper-level course in animal/human physiology, other upper-level courses in the applicant’s area of expertise, and occasional non-majors science courses. The standard teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester (typically two courses, each including a lecture and accompanying lab) plus a January Term course every other year. Candidates should consider how they would engage undergraduates in research through coursework and/or in projects during the summer or academic year. Startup funds are provided, and additional funding is available for mentoring summer research students. The Austin College Biology Department has modern teaching and lab-based research facilities and additionally makes use of several college-owned properties for off-site field research and teaching.

Austin College faculty also participate in campus service and governance and mentor students as academic advisors. The successful candidate will have strong commitments to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment and to fostering and encouraging participation from a diverse student body. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups and those who share our commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all students are strongly encouraged to apply. Austin College faculty pride themselves in providing a welcoming working community. The college is a federally designated Hispanic-serving Institution (HSI), and additional student demographic information can be found here: https://www.austincollege.edu/explore/in-numbers.
