Assistant Professor of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science at Florida Southern College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in August 2026. A Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field is preferred, but candidates with a master’s degree and significant industry experience are invited to apply and will be considered for an initial non-tenure track instructor-level appointment. Candidates with any area of research specialization will be considered. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates and will be expected to teach courses at all levels of the curriculum, including both computer science core courses and elective or concentration courses in our curriculum. The teaching load is 3/3. Faculty are expected to maintain an active program of scholarly activity that includes mentoring talented undergraduates and to engage in service to the campus community.
The Department of Computer Science moved into the new, state-of-the-art Carole and Marcus Weinstein Computer Sciences Center in August 2021. In addition to dedicated, high-tech classrooms, this new facility houses a cyber range, AI/Robotics research lab, makerspace, and eSports gaming room. The CS curriculum includes three-course concentration sequences in AI and Machine Learning, Full Stack Web Development, and Cybersecurity. The department’s computing infrastructure is undergoing an expansion to provide additional virtual machine servers to support custom computing environments for courses and research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help guide the department through a period of significant growth.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field (candidates with a master’s degree and significant industry experience are invited to apply and will be considered for an initial non-tenure track appointment)
- Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate core computer science courses
- Ability to create and foster an engaged-learning environment in the classroom
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to mentor undergraduate research projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active research program, with opportunities for potential undergraduate student collaboration
- Teaching expertise in one or more of the following areas: AI/Machine Learning, Full Stack Web Development, Cybersecurity, Robotics and Embedded Systems, Mobile Applications, AI-Assisted Software Development, Computer Ethics, HCI/UX, or Data Science
