Location

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Department Information

We are a collective of interdisciplinary and community-engaged scholars committed to investigating and addressing social problems, which are broadly defined as conditions or behaviors that have a negative impact on society. We examine and understand these problems using scientific approaches, including applied, theoretical, and evaluation research. Faculty expertise broadly includes sociological, criminological, and criminal justice research areas related to social harms, social organization and disorganization, policing, courts, and correctional systems, life course sociology and criminology, causes and correlates of crime and deviance, responses to crime, laws, policies, and practices, and myriad forms of inequality. Finally, SCJ faculty are scholars and teachers committed to excellence in teaching and mentorship to ensure our graduates are ready for life and work after college. Faculty in the department engage in multiple forms of experiential education and high-impact practices to synthesize their teaching, research, and service roles.

Radow College of Humanities & Social Sciences is dedicated to pioneering workforce readiness in the humanities and social sciences. Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice with a preferred start date of August 2026. This is a nine-month contracted position for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core courses in our undergraduate and graduate criminal justice programs. Faculty in the department teach in a variety of modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Candidates should have experience or willingness to teach large class sections.
  • Service to the Department, College, and University is also expected.
  • While our standard teaching load is 3/3, it is anticipated this will be a research-intensive 2/2 teaching load. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a productive research agenda and seek opportunities for external funding.
  • Overall, strong scholarship, along with a commitment to excellence in teaching and service, is expected of all tenure-track faculty members in the Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences at KSU.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Criminology or Criminal Justice, or other closely related social science discipline is required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A clear promise of quality research and scholarship.
  • The potential for external research funding.
  • Experience or expressed interest in teaching large classes.
  • The area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to applicants with the ability to teach large major courses, including but not limited to, (1) Foundations of Criminal Justice, (2) Crimes and Defenses, (3) Criminal Courts, (4) Research Methods in Criminal Justice, (5) Criminal Procedure, (6) Corrections, and (7) Ethics in Criminal Justice.
