Purpose of the Position
The University of Minnesota Morris seeks to fill a tenure track faculty position with a joint appointment in Economics and Business Management starting August 17, 2026. We welcome applicants at the Assistant or Associate Professor Rank. The successful candidate will have a role in shaping the future of the discipline.
Job Duties
The teaching load is 20 credits annually (e.g., 5 4-credit courses) of instruction or the equivalent. A strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts context, and demonstrated success as the instructor of record in at least two semester- or quarter-length courses is required. Interest in and ability to deliver Business Management curriculum is essential. Examples: Finance; HR/Labor-Management Relations; Business Law; Managerial Economics; Corporate Strategy; Entrepreneurship; Other. Ability to teach principles of Economics and offer at least one upper division elective in Economics is also essential. A terminal degree in hand at the time of application is preferred (Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, or a closely related field; D.B.A., J.D. considered; an M.B.A in addition to a terminal degree will be looked upon favorably).
All instructors are expected to strive for excellence in teaching and to participate in the assessment of student learning at the program and campus level.
Advising, service, and research are also fundamental expectations. A significant research program, as judged by external academic reviewers, is required for tenure and promotion. UMN Morris provides a variety of forms of support for research, including one semester of teaching relief (usually in year 3), support for conference travel, a competitive grant-in-aid (through the UMN system), and other means.
All instructors are expected to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Review of the applications will begin November 17, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. Starting salary will be in the $70 - $78K range. With our excellent benefits the total compensation will be between $95,600-$106,400. Employees at UMN Morris are immediately vested in our retirement program which has a high employer contribution of 10% and an employee contribution of 5.5%. The full compensation package also includes generous medical, dental, and other benefits. Qualifications
Essential knowledge, skills and abilities
- Education: ABD in Economics or a related field by the start of the appointment.
- Teaching: i): successful undergraduate teaching experience; ii) ability and willingness to teach the courses listed above.
- Research: potential to develop a successful scholarly research program in Economics or a business-related field
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities
- Ph.D. in Economics or related field completed.
- A demonstrated understanding of the liberal arts mission, a commitment to inclusive education, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Evidence of a well-developed research program amenable to involving advanced undergraduates.

Pay Range: $70000 - $78000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
