THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Educational Psychology (EPSY) is in the School of Education, within the College of Arts Letters and Social Sciences (CLASS). EPSY offers programs leading to the M.S. in Counseling Psychology, the M.S. in Special Education, and related credentials. Programs prepare specialists and educators who work as Marriage and Family Therapists, School Counselors, School Psychologists, or Educational Specialists.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The Department seeks a tenure-track full-time faculty member with specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy to teach classes and support operations of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program. Responsibilities include teaching courses such as Fieldwork Supervision, Theories of Counseling, Group Counseling, Family Therapy, and Psychological Research; researching and publishing related to marriage and family therapy; supporting students; developing relationships with training agencies; recruiting and admitting students; remaining current with BBS regulations; participating in professional organizations; serving on committees; and possibly coordinating the program. Teaching assignments include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online.
RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary: $7,015 to $7,269 monthly ($84,180 to $87,228 annually).
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: Earned doctorate in Psychology or Counseling; Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) or equivalent; Eligibility to supervise MFT Trainees in California; Experience counseling mental health clients; Commitment to research; Strong interest in preparing future therapists; Effective interpersonal skills.
- Preferred: Experience with MFT licensure process; Clinical counseling experience; Skill in understanding diverse histories and cultures; Experience in teaching family, couples, and child therapy; Competence in Substance Abuse Counseling and/or Community Mental Health; Experience in teaching and community service.
