ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH
Northwestern State University of Louisiana Department of English, Languages, and Cultural Studies in Natchitoches, LA, is seeking applicants to fill the position of Assistant Professor of English (tenure track) with a specialty in English literature before 1660 with a starting date of August 10, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in English preferred, ABO considered, with a dissertation or specialty in English literature before 1660.
- The ability to teach first-year composition classes, introductory literature courses for majors and non-majors, and more specialized classes in English literature before 1660.
Job Duties and Other Information
The position's teaching responsibilities are expected to include the first half of a year-long English literature survey for majors as well as first-year composition classes, introductory literature courses for majors and non-majors, and more specialized classes in English literature before 1660. Therefore, we seek a candidate who will provide high-quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate English courses, in both face-to-face and online settings. Teaching load will be 4/4. Candidates also should demonstrate a willingness to assist with the recruitment and retention of students and dedication to a promising research agenda.
- Teaches on-line and face-to-face courses.
- Teaches both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Submits course outlines and objectives.
- Maintains class schedules.
- Provides course instruction in accordance with designated objectives.
- Utilizes a variety of proven teaching methods appropriate to the targeted domain of learning.
- Evaluates students regularly and reports progress in a timely manner.
- Participates in periodic review of course materials.
- Maintains appropriate expertise and competencies through continuing professional development.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Department goals and course objectives.
- Participates in faculty meetings and serves on all appropriate department and university committees.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with federal laws and university policy.
- Engages in professional service.
- Engages in research.
- Represents the Department in a professional manner in all activities.
