The successful candidate is expected to teach 24 contact hours each year in the English Department. In addition to teaching 24 contact hours per academic year, a full-time faculty member serves on departmental, divisional, and institutional committees; holds six office hours per week (some of which must be on campus); and pursues professional development opportunities related to discipline and pedagogy. Evening and weekend instruction may be required. Instruction may take place in face to face, online, blended, and flex formats. Full time faculty members must teach at least one course of their teaching load each semester in an on-campus format.
Weeks per fiscal year: Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May) - We seek a full-time colleague to begin August 18, 2026.

Position Description and Duties:
The English Department at Harper College is actively seeking a diverse pool of candidates in order to fill a full-time faculty position specializing in the field of English Composition, with an emphasis on support for developmental writing and reading courses.
This position teaches a standard load of twelve (12) credit hours per semester (24 credits per academic year) consisting chiefly of developmental writing (ENG093/ENG094/ENG095) and composition courses (ENG101/ENG102). The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to teach Humanities, Literature, Creative Writing, Social Justice Studies, Sustainability Studies, Honors Program, and Learning Community courses.
The English program provides theory and training essential to equipping students to develop writing skills for the workforce or for transfer to a four-year program of study in a wide variety of academic pathways. Candidates should exhibit a writing pedagogy that is responsive to students' varying skill levels and a mastery of strategies that foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment. In addition, candidates should possess expertise in areas such as curriculum development, ALP (Accelerated Learning Program) co-requisite support courses, and online teaching.
Harper College provides excellent facilities to students and faculty in the English department. The college has the following labs and facilities as part of the learning environment: general classrooms, computer labs, learning and discussion labs, and rooms equipped for hyflex teaching.
The successful candidate will be able to teach a variety of introductory courses to students of diverse backgrounds and varying levels of college readiness using traditional and alternative delivery methods. We encourage interested candidates to familiarize themselves with our course offerings.
Educational Requirements:
MA in English or Rhetoric/Composition; MFA in Creative Writing; PhD in English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition.
Experience Requirements:
The following are preferred knowledge, skills, and experiences for a successful candidate:
- Two years of college-level teaching experience is required with two years of community college teaching experience strongly preferred.
