The Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of assessment and treatment of acute psychiatric conditions, including depression, mania, psychosis, anxiety, and suicidality. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Board Certification or Eligibility is required.
Teaching responsibilities may include clinical supervision of medical students, psychiatry residents, and nurse practitioner students in provision of hospital-based psychiatric care; didactic teaching of psychiatry residents in topics related to hospital-based psychiatric care.
Clinical responsibilities may include serving as an attending on a hospitalist team for the psychiatric inpatient units at Pennsylvania Hospital and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - Cedar Avenue. Clinical effort will be distributed across weeks of full-time on-unit service, weekend rounding, and off-unit tasks that support clinical care. Attendings will serve as the leader of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, including social workers, nurses, and mental health technicians, with primary responsibility for psychiatric assessment, treatment, and disposition. Attendings may also have opportunities to provide care in Penn's psychiatric crisis centers and/or outpatient clinics. This position will have no mandatory call responsibilities, but attendings will have the option of compensated, voluntary call.
