Position Description
The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Instruction in Communication Studies and Assistant Director of Speech. A PhD in Communication, Communication Studies, Technical/Professional Communication, or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates must have prior teaching experience in introductory communication and public speaking as well as experience coaching competitive speech and forensics as part of the American Forensic Association, National Forensic Association, and/or Pi Kappa Delta.
Teaching responsibilities will include upper- and lower-level courses supporting the new baccalaureate in Professional Communication and Digital Media Studies and courses within the university's core curriculum. The person appointed to this position will also assist the Director of Speech in coaching the Comet Speech and Forensics team at UT Dallas.
Preferred candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas: nonverbal communication, team dynamics, organizational communication, professional and technical communication, and/or digital media studies.
The appointment commences for the fall 2026 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A master's degree or equivalent in Communication, Communication Studies, Technical/Professional Communication, or a related discipline is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience: A PhD in Communication, Communication Studies, Technical/Professional Communication, or a related field. Those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage. Experience teaching upper and lower-division courses in Communication/Communication Studies as well as experience coaching competitive speech and forensics.
