Description
The Public Health Program at the University of Texas at Austin is recruiting qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position for the Spring 2026 semester. This position seeks candidates with a strong track record of university teaching experience at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor of Instruction.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate public health courses, including the capstone course and another foundational course required by all public health majors (e.g., Global Health, Environmental Health, Project Management, Planning and Evaluation, etc.), employing evidence-based teaching practices to foster student learning and engagement. Responsibilities include mentoring fourth-year students in capstone projects, guiding collaboration with local non-profits on real-world public health challenges, and supporting reflection and skill development through e-portfolios. The faculty member will contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation activities, participate in departmental, college, and university service, and pursue ongoing professional development to maintain excellence in teaching and student support.
The rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction carries a nine-month appointment, renewed annually based on demonstrated teaching excellence and the Public Health Program's needs.
Applications received on or before October 1, 2025, will be given priority consideration, but we will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.
Qualifications
We invite dedicated public health professionals and experienced educators committed to excellence in teaching and student mentorship to apply. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in public health or a related field (PhD, DrPH, MD/MPH) with experience in public health practice or related services.
Preferred qualifications include undergraduate teaching and mentoring experience and strong connections with local public health organizations. The faculty member will teach three in-person courses each semester while also mentoring student research projects and honors theses, contributing to scholarship, and collaborating with colleagues to strengthen the program. In joining us, you will help further UT Austin's mission to achieve excellence in education and public service for the benefit of Texas and beyond.
Application Instructions
Interested applicants should submit the following on Interfolio: (a) a cover letter describing relevant experience, and public health experience more broadly; (b) a curriculum vitae; (c) a statement of teaching experience and interests, including a record of prior teaching evaluations, if available; and (d) three letters of reference who can speak to your ability as an instructor.
Questions regarding the position may be directed to the director of the public health program, Dr. Sonia Gonzalez (sg2@utexas.edu).
Applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment screening requirements, including verification of academic credentials and background check.
The College of Natural Sciences views welcoming the entire college community and excellence as interconnected in the work of its faculty.
