WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY. The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Japanese, effective July 1, 2026.

Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. in Japanese linguistics, pedagogy, or a related field is required for the position; ABD candidates are invited to apply. Qualified applicants will demonstrate their ability to teach Japanese language courses across all levels, initiate and sustain original research and scholarship in linguistics and language acquisition, and contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth for all its stakeholders. A strong grounding in proficiency-oriented teaching, a commitment to creating an inclusive classroom environment, and a command of instructional technology are also preferred qualities.

Position Summary: This individual is expected to teach Japanese language courses, including Professional Japanese, and may develop topic courses taught in English at the undergraduate level; engage in scholarly activities; and participate in departmental, College, and University service.
