Position: Assistant Professor of Strategy/Organization Theory
Effective Date: August 17, 2026 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $6,221 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $131,000 to $141,000/per year, $10,916 to $11,750/per month. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

About the College of Business:

The College of Business is a leading, dynamic urban college serving south Los Angeles County and Orange County. Business is one of the most popular fields of study on campus. Accredited since 1971 at both the undergraduate and graduate levels by AACSB International, the College of Business has approximately 4,800 undergraduate majors, almost 600 graduate students in eight masters' programs, and a network of 65,000 graduates since its inception. Department of Management/HRM

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Business or Management with a concentration in Strategic Management or Organizational Theory. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2026.
  • Demonstrated potential to effectively teach and engage in curriculum development for Strategic Management or Organization Theory subjects at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarship leading to publication
  • Demonstrated potential to contribute in service roles to the department, college, university, and community
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • We acknowledge that candidates may have a broad variety of ways that they could contribute to the Management/HRM department at CSULB. Therefore, we encourage applications from all candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, regardless of the extent to which they meet the desired qualifications outlined in this section.
  • As our priority is high-quality education, we are interested in candidates that have experience in teaching classes with a focus on strategic management or topics within organization theory
  • While strategy-related teaching expertise will be considered, expertise in case analysis and writing assessments would strongly complement our current undergraduate program
  • As CSULB is elevated to Doctoral University: High Research Activity (R2) status by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, we are equally interested in candidates that have strong research pipelines and have published or are under review in journals of recognized quality in the Strategy and Organization Theory fields
  • Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom

Duties:

  • Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Primary teaching assignment will likely include undergraduate courses in strategic management and organization theory. [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
  • Engage in research, scholarly and creative activities leading to conference presentations and publications
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Management and Human Resource Management is an interdisciplinary department comprised of tenured/tenure-track faculty, full-time lecturers, and adjunct instructors who work together to serve CSULB students by developing high-quality courses in management, human resource management, and supply chain management. We are a collegial department with several long-serving faculty.
