The Department of Mathematics is seeking applicants to fill one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Mathematics beginning August 1, 2026.
Tennessee Technological University, located in Cookeville, Tennessee, is a comprehensive public university serving approximately 11,000 students. The Department of Mathematics has 25 faculty specializing in areas from number theory to artificial intelligence. The Department offers both bachelor’s and master’s programs, with undergraduate concentrations in actuarial science, applied mathematics, pure mathematics, statistics and data science, and math for secondary education. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics (or international equivalent) from an accredited institution by the start date. The formal review of completed applications will begin on January 15, 2026. All completed applications thereafter will be considered as time permits.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach up to 11 credit hours per semester of undergraduate and/or master's-level mathematics courses in in-person, online, or hybrid formats, including courses in areas such as abstract algebra and geometry
- Maintain an active research program in an area of pure mathematics that leads to publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Develop and implement courses related to one’s curricular area or that serve the overall teaching needs of the department
- Demonstrate the willingness and ability to mentor and supervise graduate research projects
- Participate in service activities that support the department and university, as well as participate in public and professional service activities as appropriate
- Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of the Mathematics Department and the greater campus community
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. (or international equivalent) in Mathematics from an accredited institution by the start date. Ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate and master’s-level courses, including those in areas such as abstract algebra and geometry. An active research program in an area of pure mathematics.
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of potential for high-quality teaching and quality research, along with an active research program in an area of pure mathematics that complements the research areas of the department.
