Position Summary:

Augustana University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music specializing in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The successful candidate will provide artistic leadership for the Augustana Bach Collegium, a premier choral and instrumental ensemble within the School of Music, presenting several concerts annually that focus on Bach's cantatas and other works for chorus and orchestra. Additional responsibilities include teaching in the music history sequence, conducting, and other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Serve as the artistic leader of the Augustana Bach Collegium, collaborating with colleagues in the Vocal Studies Program to enhance the program's visibility and artistic impact.
• Plan, rehearse, and conduct several Collegium concerts annually, focusing on Bach's choral and orchestral repertoire.
• Participate in the planning and execution of significant university events, such as Vespers and other seasonal concerts.
• Contribute to curriculum development, instruction, and assessment within the undergraduate and aspirational graduate music programs in alignment with NASM standards.
• Maintain an active research, performance, and professional career.
• Actively engage in student recruitment and retention efforts.
• Provide service to the university, division, college, and profession through committee work and other initiatives.
• Mentor and advise undergraduate students in academic, artistic, and professional development.
• Teach additional courses as assigned to support the music curriculum and broader general education courses offered by the School of Music, (e.g., conducting, music history, music appreciation).

Required Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate in Choral Conducting; ABD candidates will be considered with an expected completion date before the appointment start date.
• Evidence of successful teaching experience at the college or university level.
• A demonstrated record of scholarly and/or artistic activity associated with the life and works of J.S. Bach, with the potential for sustained productivity.
• Experience employing innovative and engaging teaching strategies that meet the needs of 21st-century students.
• Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
