The Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies (DPS) in the College of Education at the University of Arizona invites applications for a full-time academic appointment as an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Special Education-Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program at UArizona Online Campus. The appointment begins January 2026. This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure. The Special Education-Deaf/Hard of Hearing program offers a Master's (MA) degree and is approved by the Arizona State Board of Education and nationally accredited by the Council on Education of the Deaf (CED). The program is growing and is fully committed to impacting the provision of services to children and students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) on a state, national and global level across placements in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team that is committed to meeting the teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TODHH) shortage impacting services to DHH students and their families throughout the U.S. Applications will be reviewed starting at the end of August 2025 and will be accepted until the position is filled. Duties & Responsibilities

• Teach graduate courses in Special Education-Deaf/Hard of Hearing or other Special Education areas.
• Supervise teacher candidates in a variety of field experiences.
• Serve on program admissions and portfolio review committees.
• Support program recruitment efforts.
• Advise and mentor students.
• Assist with grant management.
• Foster a positive learning environment for students.
• Maintain regular office hours.
• Implement course changes necessary to maintain program approval and accreditation.
• Participate in program and department events and meetings.
• Establish and maintain a positive and supportive working relationship with colleagues.
• Contribute to community, departmental, college, university, and discipline-specific service activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students in the program.
• Ability to communicate effectively through spoken/written English and American Sign Language.
• Ability to teach, supervise, and support students remotely through online technology.
• Ability to work with a variety of student population, stakeholders, and colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
• Current state of Arizona "Hearing Impaired" certification and/or Council on Education of the Deaf certification.
• Experience teaching undergraduate- or graduate-level courses; experiences should be identified as in-person or online in CV.
• Professional experience as a TODHH and/or supervisor of TODHHs in birth-to-age-21 services (5 years minimum).

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate-level teaching experience in: Audiology, Language and/or Literacy Assessment and Instruction for DHH students, Field experience supervision.
• Experience administering and interpreting formal and informal assessments for early intervention and/or with DHH PK-12 grade students.
• Experience with course and curriculum development.
• American Sign Language fluency, as demonstrated by ASLPI (level 3 or higher), SLPI:ASL (Advanced or higher), or EIPA (3 or higher), including knowledge of ASL gloss.
• Familiarity with Arizona Department of Education requirements for "Hearing Impaired" teacher certification and the Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement.
• Experience working with various populations, including those associated with the Deaf community.
• Experience in course development.
