The University of Arizona's School of Theatre, Film & Television (TFTV) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice in Stage Management, beginning August 2026. This renewable, non-tenure-track position plays a vital role in supporting our BA training in Live and Screened Performance, the Theatre Arts minor, and the Musical Theatre minor by integrating rigorous classroom instruction with hands-on production practice.

TFTV is a vibrant, collaborative community of artists and scholars dedicated to storytelling across stage and screen. The School offers nationally respected training in theatre arts, film and television production, musical theatre, and live and screened performance. Students learn in an environment that emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, professional preparation, and creative research. Duties & Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Practice in Stage Management will contribute fully to the teaching, production, and service mission of the University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television (TFTV), within the broader context of Arizona Arts and the University of Arizona.

Teaching & Mentorship- Teach two undergraduate stage management courses per semester, including lecture and production-based classes.
- Provide close mentorship, supervision, and evaluation of student Stage Managers, Production Stage Managers, and Assistant Stage Managers assigned to departmental productions.
- Embed experiential learning, critical thinking, collaboration, and professional preparation into all courses, in alignment with the Provost's "Success for Every Student" priorities.
- Foster a pluralistic learning environment that promotes dignity, belonging, and empowerment for all students.

Production Leadership
- Serve as Production Stage Manager for two productions in the School's four-show subscription season.
- Attend production meetings, rehearsals, and technical rehearsals; advise on season calendars and production timelines.
- Model professional standards and best practices while guiding student stage managers through the full production process.
- Maintain an active professional practice that supports a national and/or international creative profile.

Collaboration & Service- Collaborate with faculty and the School Director to evaluate and advance undergraduate (and as appropriate, graduate) curriculum.
- Contribute to curriculum development, faculty governance, audition coordination, committee work, and administrative service.
- Participate in initiatives across the College of Fine Arts, Arizona Arts, and the broader university, including public engagement and community outreach.

The successful candidate will demonstrate collaborative leadership, student-centered pedagogy, and a commitment to artistic and academic excellence.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to serve as liaison among directors, designers, performers, faculty, and production staff in student-centered environment.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and mentoring skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA or BFA degree in Theatre with a Stage Management emphasis, or related field.
  • Experience teaching at the University level.
  • Professional experience stage managing in a variety of production environments.
  • Proficiency with current stage management techno Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • MA or MFA in Theater with an emphasis in Stage Management or related field.
  • Experience working on multimedia or interdisciplinary productions, including integration of projections, digital media, live feed, or hybrid performance environments.
  • Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, including course design, innovative pedagogy, responsive mentoring
