Job Summary
The Psychology Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in Clinical Child Psychology. Potential candidates may have an academic background in clinical psychology, developmental psychopathology, or related discipline, with a focus on children. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching interests concern the developmental sequelae of adverse childhood experiences (e.g., abuse, neglect), the life trajectories of atypically developing children, and/or the neurological underpinnings of clinical disorders in childhood or adolescence. A PhD in Clinical or Counseling psychology is strongly preferred. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of four years, beginning in the fall semester of 2026, and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.
Responsibilities
The faculty member will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) in the general area of clinical psychology, including a seminar and advanced methods course within the incumbent's specialty. Interest in contributing to Introduction to Psychological Sciences, the Research Method sequence, or one of Oberlin's related curricular areas (e.g., Cognitive Science, Data Science, Education Studies, Global Health) is a plus.
The faculty member will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising, mentoring undergraduate research, supervising winter term projects, and service on committees.
Required qualifications
Among the qualifications required for appointment is a PhD in clinical or counseling psychology (or closely related field) in hand or expected by the first semester of the academic year 2025-26. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Oberlin College is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The incumbent will bring an understanding of or experience working with underrepresented and diverse academic populations. Oberlin is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service. Oberlin recruits, employs, trains, compensates, and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran status, and/or other protected status as required by applicable law.
