Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology and Human Development - PRODiG Fellow

Empire State University seeks candidates for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Psychology and Human Development through the PRODiG+ Fellowship program.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach online courses such as:
    • Introduction to Psychology
    • Abnormal Psychology
    • Social Psychology
    • Other courses in Psychology and Human Development as aligned with departmental needs
  • Mentor students throughout their degree program journey
  • Participate in curriculum/program development and academic assessment initiatives
  • Engage in university service activities
  • Maintain an active research agenda

This PRODiG+ Fellowship Program is designed with two primary goals:

  1. Increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and
  2. Strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of those faculty.

The successful candidate will join our dynamic department offering innovative programs to students across New York State and globally through our robust online platform. This Fellowship features:

This is a 12-month position that is expected to be two years in duration and may lead to a potential appointment of a tenure track faculty position.

Preference will be given to candidates who are:

  • Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows.
  • From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • PhD or relevant terminal degree in Counseling/Clinical Psychology or closely related discipline from an accredited institution (completed prior to start date).
  • Eligible candidates must demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching and mentoring in online learning environments.
  • Background in academic program development.
  • Knowledge of learning assessment and contemporary pedagogical approaches.
  • Graduate of a CACREP-accredited program or Licensed Psychologist in New York State.

Special Information:

  • Two-year, post-doctoral Fellowship
  • Flexible office hours to accommodate student needs.
  • Some evening and/or weekend engagement with students may be required.
  • Teach two courses each academic term.

  • Expected start date of 8/3/2026.
  • May be eligible for tenure track position at conclusion of the fellowship.
