The Teaching, Curriculum, and Society Department in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College seeks to fill a tenure-track, full-time assistant professor position beginning Fall 2027. We invite applicants with expertise in teaching and research at the elementary and/or secondary level in one or more areas at the intersection of special education and literacy instruction (reading, writing), content-area learning (English language arts, history, biology, chemistry, physics, or mathematics), assessment, transition, or teacher education.
We are particularly interested in a colleague who takes interdisciplinary perspectives on disability. For example, a focus on disability and multilingualism, disability and historically marginalized populations, or disability studies perspectives. In addition to sustaining a robust program of research, the successful applicant will teach in our Moderate Support Needs programs. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field, as well as experience in K-12 inclusive special education.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining a productive research agenda, including applying for and securing external funding;
- Teaching (two courses per semester) in the following: graduate moderate support needs licensure and certificate programs, generalist special education coursework, undergraduate general education, and the department's interdisciplinary Curriculum & Instruction doctoral program;
- Student advising;
- Collaborating in programmatic development;
- Providing service (e.g., committee work) to the department, Lynch School, and university.
Previous experience in preparing K-12 special education teachers at the graduate, undergraduate, or professional development levels is desired. Candidates should have a record of research productivity; the potential to develop funded research; an ability to communicate their work to broader publics; and a commitment to contribute to innovation across the Lynch School of Education and Human Development. Candidates should be dedicated to teaching, advising, and mentoring students across the undergraduate and graduate levels. The expected 9-month base salary range (paid over 12 months) for this position is $130,000-135,000. The actual pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, candidate qualifications and prior experience, scope of responsibilities, internal equity, and market considerations.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field, as well as experience in K-12 inclusive special education.
