Assistant Professor of String Bass
The School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of String Bass to start August 1, 2026. We seek an artist/teacher committed to inclusive pedagogy and with demonstrated experience engaging students from diverse musical, social, and cultural backgrounds. The ideal candidate is a highly accomplished and versatile musician-teacher dedicated to access and excellence for all students. They will be a skilled and successful teacher of undergraduate and graduate students. They will fulfill duties and responsibilities commensurate with academic positions at a leading institution. The successful candidate will teach a studio of undergraduate and graduate string bass students. The successful candidate will be committed to contributing to the musical and intellectual life of the school and fostering engagement throughout the university and in the community. As a member of the School of Music faculty, the Assistant Professor of Bass will contribute to ongoing inclusive excellence initiatives in the school.

Minimum Qualifications: Master of Music degree or equivalent professional experience. Experience teaching classical bass. Ability to teach electric bass students in the Popular Music & Technology program. Performance experience in a variety of genres and musical styles and/or experience teaching and performing in more than one style or tradition. Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive and collaborative faculty, staff, and student environment as a team member at UNCG.
Preferred Qualifications: DMA or equivalent professional experience. Evidence of artistic excellence in performance. Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Evidence of successful recruiting practices. Ability to work with a variety of ensembles based on the needs of the department. Demonstrated experience mentoring and teaching students from a wide range of backgrounds. Demonstrated experience enhancing teaching and professional/creative practice through innovation and fostering belonging.
Other Area of Consideration: Ability to teach other coursework depending on the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the department
