Assistant Professor of Urology – SMS-3513
This is an academic position in the practice and teaching of urology to medical students, residents, and allied health professionals with direct responsibilities to the Chief of the Division of Urology who reports to the Chairman of the Department of Surgery. This individual will be hired with the emphasis on the area of andrology.
Teaching
A. Assist the Chief of the Division of Urology and the Program Director in coordinating and directing the residency program, with particular emphasis in andrology.
B. Participate in the development and implementation of specific undergraduate curricula in urology.
C. Participate directly in urology residency training.
D. Participate in continuing education programs in urology for both the clinical faculty and for practicing physicians in the area.
E. Provide a role model for students and residents as a teacher and practicing urologist.
Research
A. Actively engage in research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Division.
B. Provide a role model for students and residents as an investigator.
C. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support research.
Service
A. Demonstrates, by actions, commitment to the mission and the behavioral standards of SIU School of Medicine. Provides excellent service to both internal and external customers through collaboration and partnership; compassion and respect; integrity and accountability; diversity and inclusion; as well as continuous learning and improvement.
B. Set an example to future practitioners of highly skilled and conscientious practice of urology that is balanced with self-education and other academic activities.
C. Assist in the coordination of multiple disciplinary clinics for the care of urologic andrology patients.
D. Maintain a clinical practice in urology in order to enhance clinical proficiency.
E. Participate in peer review for assessing clinical practice skills for faculty within the Division.
F. Represent the Division in regional, state, and national matters pertaining to the field of urology.
G. Attend national meetings and symposia in urology and related fields for the purpose of contribution, acquisition of additional knowledge, and as an example to other physicians.
H. Serve on committees in national, regional, and state societies pertaining to pediatric urology.
I. Represent the Division and/or Department on committees as requested by the Division and Department Chairmen.
Administration
A. Assist the Chairman of the Division of Urology in coordinating and directing the residency program, with particular emphasis on male infertility and sexual dysfunction.
B. Assist in the assessment of surgical manpower and education needs in the specialty of urology and subspecialty of andrology in Central and Southern Illinois and develop education programs to meet these needs.
Alternate Education path or Board Certified or Board Eligible in Urology Able to be licensed in the State of Illinois Successful completion of urology fellowship Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
