Physician Assistant, Department of Urology, Boston University School of Medicine
The Department of Urology at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center (BMC) is an academic medical/surgical practice committed to excellence in clinical care, teaching and research. Under the general supervision of a physician, the Physician Assistant will provide expertise in treatments that improve our urology patients overall health and quality of life in a comfortable, casual, and caring setting. Specifically, this position will have a focus on patients being evaluated and/or treated for urologic cancers (e.g., prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer). The Physician Assistant will work closely with Urologic Oncologists in providing comprehensive care in the pre-operative and post-operative settings. In addition to patient care, the Physician Assistant will be actively involved in liaising with our medical and radiation oncology colleagues, to provide a multi-disciplinary care approach. This includes being an integral member of the weekly multi-disciplinary tumor board conference. There may also be some ample time to manage non-oncologic (general urology) patients.
Qualified Physician Assistants will hold at least a Bachelor's degree and must be a graduate of a PA Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) or its predecessor. In order to apply for the position, the PA must be National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) PANCE eligible and eligible for PA licensure in the State of Massachusetts. Documentation of Massachusetts PA license and initial NCCPA certification are required upon hire. If prescribing medications is included in clinical duties and privileges, Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required. Prior experience in similar clinical setting/specialty is preferred. Successful candidates will be self-directed, demonstrate initiative and professionalism, and exercise expert clinical judgment to function independently in this role. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English are required in order to communicate complex medical information to collaborators such as patients and their families, physicians, staff, and community health workers. Physician assistants who have exceptional problem solving and conflict resolution skills are preferred.
