The School of Music is part of the College of the Arts, which was established in 2016 and also includes the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design, the School of Film, Media & Theatre, and the Center for Educational Partnerships in Music. In addition to offering some of the university’s most popular majors, the college connects faculty and students with Atlanta’s thriving arts scene and booming film and music industries.
Position Description
- Directing the GSU Opera Theater; duties will include directing and collaborating with GSU Orchestra Director for one fully-staged performance with orchestra each spring; supervising opera graduate assistants; presenting a fall opera or scenes performance (piano only)
- The position is supported by an endowed professorship, which provides an additional stipend as well as extra funding to support the opera program
- Position will also include a summer appointment (with an additional summer stipend) to serve as artistic director of the Harrower Summer Opera Program.

Required Experience
- Demonstrated excellence and experience as a director of opera required (stage directing)
- Minimum 3 years’ teaching experience in higher education required
Required Education
Master’s degree in vocal performance
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Doctoral degree in vocal performance or equivalent professional experience preferred
- A record of successful recruitment preferred
- Experience teaching in young artist programs preferred
- Experience with musical preparation/coaching preferred
Salary
$70,000
