Position Title & Department: Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics & Biophysics

The Department of Physics and Biophysics at the University of San Diego offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Physics and in Biophysics. The department provides personalized student mentoring, small class sizes, and independent research opportunities. Faculty typically teach about 3 courses per semester and involve undergraduates in research programs in areas such as astronomy, atomic physics, plasma physics, computational astrophysics, astroparticle physics, soft condensed matter, and biophysics.

The Department seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position starting in Fall 2026, with research interests in quantum science involving computational and/or numerical methods. Candidates should demonstrate a student-centered approach to teaching undergraduates, from lower-division courses for non-majors to advanced upper-division courses. They should have plans to establish an undergraduate-driven research program in atomic physics or fundamental quantum mechanics, providing authentic research experiences. Participation in department and university service is expected, including committee work, recruitment, outreach, and public demonstrations.

Job Requirements: Candidates must hold a terminal degree, preferably a PhD in Physics, and have full-time university-level teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant level. They should show commitment to teaching, research, mentoring undergraduates, and university service.

Posting Salary: $7,000-7,333 per month, with excellent benefits.
