Assistant Professor - Public Administration & Policy

Job Description

The Department of Public Administration and Policy, housed within the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, is seeking to hire a tenure-track assistant professor in public policy and/or applied microeconomics, starting Fall 2026.

We welcome applications from candidates specializing in a wide range of public policy areas, including but not limited to child and family policy, education policy, energy and/or environmental policy, health policy, international development policy, science and technology policy, artificial intelligence policy, social policy and inequality, and urban policy. Applicants must have a completed doctoral degree from an accredited program by August 15, 2026.

Faculty in Rockefeller College are expected to pursue an active research program, teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in service activities.

Applicants are expected to teach a 2-2 load, likely consisting of two sections of masters-level microeconomics, one section of statistics (either masters or undergraduate), and a public policy elective. Candidates should also be willing to teach courses in online formats when specific needs arise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A PhD degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/15/2026.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the ability to conduct a program of original research in the field of Public Policy that is likely to produce a stream of publications sufficient for tenure at an R1 university.
  • Applicants must demonstrate evidence of a research program that addresses relevant questions in one or more areas of Public Policy through conference presentations, submitted research examples, cover letter, and dissertation research.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential to teach a broad range of courses in Public Policy and Applied Microeconomics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A record of, or demonstrated potential for, generating external funding to support the candidate's research agenda.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in economics, econometrics, or public policy.
  • A demonstrated ability, or potential for, teaching classes in both online and in-person settings.
  • Record of publishing research that addresses the big questions in one or more areas of Public Policy or Artificial Intelligence described above.
