"Assistant Professor"

The Brown University Department of Sociology and the Watson School of International and Public Affairs invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position, to begin July 1, 2026, whose research focuses on social policy, broadly conceived. We seek candidates whose research contributes to the discipline at large, and who can engage creatively with other areas of strength in the department and in the Watson School.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be engaged in a strong research program with the potential to influence the field, demonstrate the intention to obtain external funding, and demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising in the Sociology department. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a desire to engage with students, practitioners and an interdisciplinary range of scholars around the implications of their research for international and public affairs, and demonstrate potential for excellence for teaching quantitative methods in master’s programs at the Watson School. Candidates must have received a PhD by the time of appointment.
