Description
The Faculty of Nursing, University of Calgary, invites applications for Assistant Professor (Teaching), specifically to serve as academic mentor and Indigenous academic coach for both rural and urban Indigenous students. This two-year limited term position will ideally commence March 1, 2026, and end February 29, 2028.

Candidates must have a master's degree in nursing or a related discipline and be eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. This role is ideal for a collaborative educator and mentor passionate about Indigenous health, academic excellence, and student development.

The Indigenous academic coach acts as an educator, facilitator, mentor, and academic guide to Indigenous students in the Faculty of Nursing. The position reports directly to the Associate Dean, Indigenous Education.

Applicants at the Assistant rank will be early career academics who have previous professional and teaching experiences in nursing academia or clinical practice. Applicants will have evidence or promise of teaching effectiveness or competency in teaching and learning (e.g., as part of a teaching dossier), an awareness of how to apply scholarly approaches to teaching and learning practices, participation in reflective practice, and professional learning activities related to teaching and learning. The rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching) requires engagement in the research and scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy and curriculum design as well as engaging in other scholarly professional or creative activities that strengthens and informs the academic staff member's knowledge base and expertise.

Applicants will have:

  • Experience coaching and mentoring Indigenous students in both clinical and academic contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with Indigenous students and Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with course instructors to develop course and term specific tutorials to foster student success.
  • Demonstrated evidence of relationship building to foster student engagement, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Experience with a variety of teaching modalities including classroom, clinical and simulation.
