Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Leadership in Advancing Nursing Practice and Education
The School of Nursing in the Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Leadership in Advancing Nursing Practice and Education. This is a teaching-centred, tenure-track appointment to commence July 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate-level courses and to provide creative educational leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation in the classroom and at the program level. The successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in academic leadership and advancing nursing practice. They will bring experience in formal academic leadership positions that may include oversight of curriculum development, implementation, and delivery; student success and supporting the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that enhance curriculum, teaching innovation and experiential learning at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will demonstrate significant experience in university level teaching with undergraduate BScN students, knowledge of appropriate learning theory, innovative teaching methodologies, and a commitment to ethics, equity, diversity, inclusivity and decolonization in teaching.
Candidates must also demonstrate expertise in understanding the learning needs of a highly diverse student population, including internationally educated nurses (IENs), as well as knowledge and experience in educating and supporting IEN students, and in the establishment and sustainability of global collaboration with academic institutions.
The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in both administrative and committee work in the university context. Candidate Qualifications:
- PhD in Nursing or a related field is required. Candidates must be registered in good standing or eligible for registration with the College of Nurses
- Strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to teaching, learning and program design at the undergraduate level, and evidence of good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching.
- A record or evidence promise of excellence in teaching at the university level (e.g., pedagogical innovations, student and/or peer evaluations of teaching awards or other indicators of high-quality teaching).
- A record or evident promise of making valuable contributions through administrative and committee service in university and/or community and health contexts.
- Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred.
