The Department of Physics at Seton Hall University invites applications to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position beginning the Fall 2026 semester. A Ph.D. in Physics or Applied Physics and a research specialization in Engineering is required. Candidates should have research interests in renewable energy, semiconductor technology, related topics in materials science & engineering, and expertise in optical spectroscopy methods in studying these subjects. The candidate is expected to build an on-campus research program, successfully seek sponsored research grants, and involve undergraduate and graduate students in scholarly activities. We seek a candidate who demonstrates excellence in teaching lecture and laboratory courses at all levels, especially to students of diverse backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a tenure-track assistant professor position to teach sections of fundamental Physics courses for Physics and other science Majors and to provide the crucial research experience for our increasing UG majors and graduate students in Applied Physics in Engineering. The department is in need for research-active full-time faculty with 9 cr/semester teaching load. The new faculty will develop new applied and engineering physics research areas and courses and complement the existing research programs in the department. The main duties/functions of this tenure-track faculty will be:

  • developing a new research program and new courses in applied physics and engineering;
  • teaching 18 credits per year in undergraduate and graduate courses;
  • academic advising for Physics students.

Required Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, and/or a related field of Engineering is required.

Desired Qualifications:

Seton Hall is investing in engineering and in interdisciplinary collaboration throughout STEM in areas like environmental science, so our preferences are to attract candidates with research interests in renewable energy research and/or environmental science and engineering, but we are also interested in experts in materials science and engineering. The candidate is expected to build an on-campus interdisciplinary research program, successfully seek sponsored research grants, and involve undergraduate and graduate students in applied and engineering-based scholarly activity. We seek a candidate who demonstrates excellence in teaching lecture and laboratory courses at all levels, especially to students of diverse backgrounds.
