Description of Responsibilities and Duties

The faculty member will teach classes in beginning, intermediate, and advanced directing, serve as a mentor and advisor for directing students, and teach intermediate acting classes. Direct workshop/mainstage productions, and provide dramaturgical input into both productions and season planning.

Required Qualifications

The UNCSA School of Drama recognizes that not all teaching is done in a traditional classroom setting and we are able to hire artists based on their work experience; therefore, we encourage all that are interested to apply.

Faculty teaching undergraduate level courses must possess: Earned doctorate/master's degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline or earned master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline OR Equivalent professional/experiential qualifications OR Equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Extensive professional directing experience required. Minimum ten years of higher education teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in new or original work required, and experience in play development as well as reinterpretations of classical texts.
  • Knowledge of the current trends and transformations in the professional landscape and industries.
  • Ability to direct workshop and mainstage productions; previous professional or college directing experience
  • Dramaturgical input into both productions and season planning.
  • Excellent communicator and advocate for student wellness

Tenure Information

UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure.

Instructions to Candidates

An EPS application is required in order to be considered for a faculty position. Please note, EPS applications do not have an employment entry section. Instead, a resume/CV will be required to be uploaded by the applicant, along with any other documents the Department or assigned Search Committee deem relevant for the review process. UNCSA follows the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) guidelines for faculty credentialing. The successful candidate will be required to submit a curriculum vitae, official transcripts of earned degrees, and/or substantiating documentation of experiential qualifications as a condition of employment.
