Job Duties:
The School of Education and Human Services in the College of Public Affairs and Education invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Special Education. The successful candidate will join a collaborative faculty committed to preparing future educators who embrace inclusive, equitable, and research-based teaching practices. The appointment begins in Fall 2026.
We seek an engaged scholar-practitioner whose teaching, research, and service promote high-quality, inclusive education for diverse learners. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting students with special needs in early childhood and/or elementary school settings. Preference will be given to applicants with additional expertise in general elementary education or teacher preparation. This is a nine-month academic year appointment with a teaching load of 12 credits per semester.
The School of Education and Human Services (SOEHS) at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh is a dynamic academic community dedicated to preparing future educators, counselors, and human service professionals. Education majors in SOEHS can pursue a wide range of teaching licenses in special education, elementary and middle education, secondary education, and physical education.
OUR LOCATION
The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, a medium-sized city of about 70,000. The Fox River flows through Oshkosh, and the city is situated on Lake Winnebago (Wisconsin’s largest lake). Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison, and Chicago are all within easy driving distance. In addition, the incredible northern woods of Wisconsin, picturesque Door County, and the Wisconsin Dells are but a short drive away, and there are ample opportunities in the area for hiking, biking, and numerous other outdoor and water activities.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Pursuing external research funding and grant opportunities
- Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in special education, early childhood special education, and elementary education across in-person, hybrid, and online modalities
- Maintaining an active research, scholarship, and other scholarly and professional endeavors in special education and/or teacher preparation
- Participating in partnerships with local schools and community organizations that advance equitable educational outcomes
- Advising, supervising, and mentoring teacher candidates during clinical and student teaching placements
- Providing service to the department, college, university, and professional community
- Collaborating with colleagues to strengthen and integrate inclusive education across programs
- Contributing to accreditation, assessment, and continuous program improvement efforts

Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field (ABD considered with completion by appointment date)
- Demonstrated experience in inclusive and evidence-based practices for students with disabilities
- At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience in special education settings
- Evidence of scholarship/research in special education and/or teacher preparation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in teacher preparation programs at the college or university level
- Experience with Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education populations
- Experience teaching in general education 4K-9 classrooms
- Record of engagement with collaborations between higher education and PK-12 special education settings
- Evidence of scholarly publications or presentations
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn Wisconsin’s accreditation and assessment processes in educator preparation
