Assistant Professor - Special Education and Literacy Studies - Tenure Track
Job Description
- Support and advance the mission of the department and Western Michigan University by fostering a learning environment that supports students and contributes to the department's strategic goals.
- Teach and continuously improve courses on autism spectrum disorder, using student-centered approaches in face-to-face, hybrid and/or virtual classes.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to students and supporting their academic and career development.
- Maintain an active research agenda in special education, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences, and applying for research funding.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the department's programs and initiatives.
- Contribute to departmental committees, participate in faculty governance, and engage in university-wide initiatives.
- Engage in service to the professional community through participation in relevant associations.
- Engage in outreach activities and community partnerships.
Qualifications (Short Job Description)
- Earned doctorate in special education or closely related field from an accredited institution with a clear emphasis in autism spectrum disorders (ABD considered).
- At least 3 years of teaching, intervention delivery, or direct service experience in a preK-12 or clinic setting with students with ASD.
- Strong behavioral background and knowledge/expertise with evidence-based practices with students with ASD.
- Research agenda focused on ASD and demonstrated potential for high quality research and scholarly productivity.
