Qualifications Required

  1. Requires a bachelor's degree in physical education, education, or in another related discipline; master's preferred. Requires two to four years of coaching experience in a high school or college setting; college coaching experience is preferred. Requires CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
  2. Possesses a thorough knowledge of the sport of soccer and can deliver coaching instruction in various teaching approaches.
  3. Demonstrates the ability to comprehend and interpret complex state and national policies, procedures, and guidelines related to collegiate athletics.
  4. Demonstrates a high level of analytical skills needed to interpret and provide instruction, mentoring, and motivational coaching to student-athletes in the skills, techniques, and competitive strategies necessary for individual and team achievement. Requires the ability to evaluate individual and team performance and refine individual and team strategies throughout the season.
  5. Requires substantial interpersonal skills needed to interact with diverse populations including student-athletes, parents, coaches, faculty, physicians, and other professionals. Exhibits sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  6. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills and technology skills. Possesses an aptitude for software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Teams and Colleague.
  7. Requires strength, agility, and athletic ability to demonstrate skills to student-athletes.

General Summary

The Assistant Soccer Coach works under the supervision of the Head Soccer Coach and is responsible for assisting with programming and operations associated with the Central Community College Men's and Women's Soccer Programs. S/he will recruit student-athletes, direct practices, manage travel and practice schedules, and supervise team conduct. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  1. Recruiting - Assist with the recruiting process for the Soccer Programs in compliance with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) regulations to identify and attract potential student-athletes. Provide referrals to prospective student-athletes to academic and student services as appropriate. Maintain contact with prospective student-athletes and provide prompt follow-up to inquiries. In addition, assists with campus promotional activities such as Registration and New Student Orientation, high school student group campus visits, and other student recruiting events including assisting with campus tours.
  2. Results - Distribute schedules to student-athletes, college personnel and media outlets. Communicate with media outlets and provide results following each game during in-season and post-season play. Assists with updating statistics, game footage, and personal evaluation of the student-athlete's academic and athletic status/abilities to promote athletes to 4-year institutions.
  3. Practices & Player Development - Assist with planning and conducting all practices during pre-season, in-season, and off-season activities. Assists with training of student-athletes and assess individual athletic abilities and skill levels. Assist with youth and team soccer camps to be held on-campus as well as satellite camps at off-campus sites throughout the CCC service area.
  4. Supervision/Discipline - Assist with supervision and student conduct at all practices, competitions, overnight travel, and special events at which the Soccer teams are represented. Enforce all regulations outlined in the Central Community College Athletic Handbook, CCC Code of Student Conduct, and the NJCAA Handbook.
  5. Retention and Support - Serves as a lead for the athletics retention plan through regular, student-centered activities. Monitors class enrollment, attendance, grades, progress in foundational courses, and SPNS status, while promoting the use of college resources and programs to support a successful transition to college life and ensure students are fully engaged in their overall experience.
  6. Injury Care - Assist with coordination of care and reporting of injuries to the Head Soccer Coach and Athletic Trainer to ensure prompt completion of documentation paperwork. Adhere to recommendations of medical professionals and/or athletic training services.
  7. Facilities Management - Oversee and monitor the athletic facilities (gymnasium, training room, weight room, locker room and turf fields) including supervision and maintenance of equipment usage to ensure a safe environment for all. Report any safety concerns to Head Soccer Coaches.
  8. Instruction - If qualified, may provide instruction for select courses as assigned by the Associate Dean of Instruction and with the evaluation and revision of the program and participate in long-range planning. Use a variety of instructional methods and delivery methods. Maintain accurate instructional records regarding student performance and attendance; utilize the college Learning Management System; meet required instructional deadlines; submit related instructional reports as required.
