Job Description: Miami University (Oxford, OH) is announcing a search for an Assistant Teaching Professor/Assistant Lecturer to teach undergraduate and graduate courses beginning Fall Semester, 2026. Responsibilities include teaching sport communication and applied media courses; advising students; and providing professional service to the department, college, and institution.
Assistant Teaching Professor/Assistant Lecturer positions are non-tenure track positions, but are renewable and have opportunities for promotion that include long-term contracts.
Sport Leadership and Management (SLAM) is a growing department serving 800+ undergraduate students (majors and minors) and 60+ graduate students. The mission of SLAM is to prepare students to succeed in leadership positions in the sport industry by providing them with knowledge and skills to critically analyze and innovatively engage in the business and culture of sport. The SLAM has three undergraduate majors designed to prepare students for specific career opportunities in Sport Management, Sport Coaching, Sport Communication and Media. SLAM students often double major or minor in management, marketing, or entrepreneurship in the Farmer School of Business, a nationally ranked top-25 undergraduate business program.

Minimum Qualifications: A doctoral degree in Sport Media, Sport Communication, Communication Studies, Media Studies, Sport Management, or closely-related field required by date of appointment for appointment as Assistant Teaching Professor. A master’s degree plus five years of teaching experience in Sport Media, Sport Communication, Communication Studies, Media Studies, Sport Management, or closely-related field required by date of appointment for appointment as Assistant Lecturer. Consideration may be given to candidates with: 1) evidence of high-quality instruction; 2) experience teaching sport communication and media courses at the college level, 3) communication and media industry experience; 4) experience with technology and equipment used in the sport communication and media field, and 5) experience with video and audio production.
