Instructor of Media
The Department of Journalism and Social Media (JRB) at SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track Instructor of Media to begin in August 2026. The role involves teaching undergraduate courses focused on media production and social media, including Audio Production and Podcasting, Media Performance, Social Media Video, Intro to Video, Social Media Literacy, Social Media Writing and/or Advertising & Consumer Culture. The faculty member will also provide academic advisement and is expected to engage in scholarship activities (traditional/creative work and/or professional development).
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
- Teaches four 3-credit undergraduate courses in Fall and Spring (8 total courses per year)
- Holds a minimum of 4 office hours weekly for students
- Advises undergraduates about schedules and career options
- Provides service to the department and the University by attending/participating in department/University events and committees
- Engages in scholarly activities such as research, creative works and/or professional development
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in media, mass communication, communication, journalism or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Professional experience working in the media industry including but not limited to broadcasting, media production, social media, podcasting, public relations, or journalism
- Excellent communication skills
- Teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Substantial teaching experience
- Experience working in a university or educational setting
- Substantial professional experience
