Assistant Teaching Professor, Electrical & Computer Engineering
Summary
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan Technological University invites applications for an instructional track faculty position to begin in the fall semester of 2026. Primary consideration will be for applicants at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, although applicants with the experience and accomplishments commensurate with a higher rank may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or Teaching Professor.
The department seeks forward-looking individuals skilled at translating new and exciting discoveries into effective graduate and undergraduate teaching in face-to-face classrooms and online courses. The position is non tenure-track.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Develop strong educational programs.
- Translate new and exciting discoveries into effective undergraduate and graduate teaching activities both face-to-face and online.
- Participation in department and university committees.
- Integrate safety practices into daily activities.
- Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work, as well as University and ABET Assessment activities.
- Ability to learn and leverage new teaching technologies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
An earned Ph.D. degree in electrical, computer or robotics engineering or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment;
OR
An earned MS degree in electrical, computer, or robotics engineering or a closely related discipline, and five years of industry experience.
Required Experience
- Effective multidisciplinary communication.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
- An earned Ph.D. degree in electrical, computer or robotics engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience teaching courses in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and/or robotics engineering.
- Post-doctoral research experience and training.
- Demonstrated industrial-related experience.
- For those that hold a PhD, a minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial experience is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
- Ability to teach all levels of undergraduate courses and advanced offerings in their particular areas of interest and expertise.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, professional colleagues, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach electrical, robotics, or computer engineering.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

The department has active research programs in image and signal processing, remote sensing, robotics, healthcare and biomedical devices, communications and sensor networks, electric energy systems, and photonics and electrophysics.
Electrical & Computer Engineering is one of nine departments in the College of Engineering.
