Assistant Teaching Professor - Human Anatomy - Department of Integrative Biology
The Department of Integrative Biology at UC Berkeley seeks applications for a dedicated Assistant Teaching Professor specializing in human anatomy. The anatomy course in Integrative Biology plays a uniquely important role to departmental and campus undergraduate teaching because it provides foundational knowledge for students pursuing pre-health careers, particularly those aiming for medical, dental, or other health-related fields. By offering rigorous training in human anatomy, the course equips students with the critical understanding needed for advanced study in the life sciences and health professions. This is a teaching-focused, senate faculty position, offering the potential for Security of Employment, similar to traditional tenure. This vital role provides an exceptional opportunity to significantly impact our undergraduate anatomy program and contribute to broader pre-health education.
IB teaching professors at the assistant rank demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring, originality, and productivity in research, potential to obtain external funding, and a commitment to service consistent with Berkeley's principles of community. The successful candidate from this search will be expected to deliver engaging human anatomy lecture and lab courses, which are fundamental to our undergraduate pre-health curriculum; contribute to the continuing development and transformation of the anatomy curriculum; contribute to physiology courses in collaboration with current instructors, including both lecture and laboratory components; develop and support new programs and courses that benefit pre-health students from diverse academic backgrounds. The successful candidate will also be expected to foster strong collaborative relationships with instructional staff, graduate student instructors, and other faculty members in all teaching endeavors.
The Department is committed to addressing the family needs of faculty, including dual career couples and single parents. We are also interested in candidates who have had non-traditional career paths or who have taken time off for family reasons, or who have achieved excellence in careers outside academia.
This is an exciting chance to join a vibrant team committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive education to future health professionals. Applicants are encouraged to visit https://ib.berkeley.edu/ to learn more about the Department and our mission.
