Assistant Teaching Professor - Media, Journalism and Film Department
The Department of Media, Journalism & Film prepares students to live and work in an interdisciplinary media environment, offering degrees in Film Studies, Journalism, Media & Communication, and Strategic Communication. This hire will have the chance to be a leader in our production curriculum, with possible responsibilities for teaching "Foundations of Production", "Intermediate Production", "Fiction Filmmaking", "Documentary Production", "Screenwriting", and our flagship "Capstone Pictures" course, in which a team of 18-22 students collaborates on a 20-minute, high production value fiction film. This individual also has the chance to teach our study away course "Inside Hollywood," in which a faculty member brings 16 promising juniors and seniors to Los Angeles to meet alumni working in various sectors of the industry.
Minimum Qualifications: Required: Ph.D. or MFA in relevant field by date of appointment. Consideration will be given to candidates with key credits (director, producer, DP, and/or editor) on fiction films or single camera TV projects that have played in festivals or otherwise garnered distribution; strong credentials in college-level production teaching; scriptwriting experience; facility in using Adobe Premiere and/or DaVinci Resolve; and working knowledge of the various departments involved in fiction production. In addition, we see experience in documentary and experimental modes of production, studio TV, and/or sound design as a plus. Non-production activities such as film festival organizing and/or written critical analysis of film and media will also be considered.
